Children's Programs   June 1st kicks of summer reading!  Grab one of our calendars, and mark every day on the calendar that you read or listen to books.  Prizes given out for every 10 days of reading. To start the summer, on Saturday June 1st we are having a kickoff event!  We’ll have an adventure maze, coloring pages, some new toys added to the play area, a find the something “hunt”, a guess the jar contest and possibly some other surprises.  The adventure maze will be available from 9:30 until 12:30 so come at a time convenient to you. (This is not 3 hours of planned activities, it’s more like an open house - come when you can).

LAPSIT – FOR KIDS UNDER 3 (Friday mornings at 10:30)
These are programs for infants and toddlers under age 3 and their caregivers. The program lasts around 30 minutes. It includes books/stories, lots of songs, nursery rhymes and fingerplays (older siblings are allowed to attend/participate when necessary).

 

06/07/24 – Flying Adventures:  Planes, birds, or hot air balloons!

06/14/24 – Adventures on Boats: Songs, rhymes, and stickers.

06/21/24 – Adventures at the Park : Stories, songs, rhymes, & stickers.

06/28/24 – Adventures on a Farm: Nursery rhymes, songs, and fun!

 

Wednesday Mornings at 10:30am (for kids ages 3-5)

 

06/05/24 – Portland Police Dept. : Meet some officers (and maybe their dog ambassador). Touch a police car, watch the flashing lights, and hopefully you won’t get handcuffed.  

06/12/24 – Old Hickory Corp of Engineers (ALL AGES) : Boat safety – just in case you want to have a boating adventure this summer. Last time they were here, we fell out of pretend boats and had to be saved.

06/19/24 – Camping Adventures! : Going on a bear hunt, fishing, and stories around the camp fire.

06/26/24 – Brooke Seigle-Rochelle from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library : She will be sharing with us, one of the books from the Imagination Library and a craft that goes with it!

Wednesday Afternoons at 3:30pm (for Kindergarten & older)

06/05/24 – Magic show by Eric Tyree: Every year he amazes and astounds us! He always brings something new to his show – can’t wait to see this years!

06/12/24 – Come meet Crash! :  No, it’s not a wrecked car . . . Crash is a real opossum with lots of facts to share!  Learn about how injured animals in nature can be rescued.

06/19/24 – Black Lion Martial Arts Academy: Demonstration and information from Sensei Hanks and some of his students.

06/26/24 – Runaway Puppet Theater:  Returns again this year with a show guaranteed to entertain you and cause lots of laughter!

 

 

FAMILY EVENTS (ALL AGES)

 

Hooks & Needles Club (previously Crochet Club): June 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th at 10:30am

All are welcome regardless of skill level.  Ages 10 & up. Bring a hook & yarn!

 

Tea Time: June 8th 11:30-12:30

Gather for a relaxing time of conversation & tea

Teen Programs for middle & high schoolers (Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:00 pm)

06/06/24 – Deco Day = Cool Summer Shades & Sun Catcher Balloons

First Fellowship of the Teens meeting this summer our adventure will be putting our creativity to work to decorate a pair of sunglasses and a model hot air balloon for our travels.

06/13/24 – IN A WORLD . . . BUCKET LISTS AND FANTASIES

Participants assemble a bucket list journal to record where they want to go and what they want to do.  Participants can also focus on fantasy and world building. What does your ideal world look like? If not limited by reality, what fantastical adventure would you take? 

06/20/24 – Let’s Plan our Vacation Adventure

Today’s adventure will have a guest presenter and we’ll have some interactive adventure planning.

 

06/27/24 – Special Guest: Jason Hanks

Jason Hanks who holds a 4th degree Black Belt in Wado-Ryu Karate, a Brown Belt in Judo, and a Green Belt in Iiado will provide an interactive demonstration in Martial Arts.

Dungeons & Dragons: Friday, June 21st 3:30-5:00

Join us for our D&D group! Both teens and college ages are welcome!

Adult staff members will be leading and monitoring the program.

Bingo: Every Tuesday at 1:00 PM

Join in on the fun of friendly competition as Ms. Vicki calls out the numbers, and the race is on to yell out "BINGO." Prizes awarded to winners.  

 

Veteran's Representative: Wednesday, June 5th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in a study room 

A rep from the Sumner County Veteran's Service Office will be available to help any vetran or veteran's spouse with questions or filling out forms.  No appointment necessary.  First come, first serve basis.

 

Genealogy Club: June 8th at 10am

The Genealogy Club will meet at 10am in the Community Room. One of our members, Angie Graves, will be presenting on the topic of using Find-a-Grave.

 

Crafts! : Tuesday, June 18th at 2:30 PM

Let’s make a cute craft!  All supplies provided. Sign up at the desk or by phone.

 

Page Turners Book Club: Thursday, June 20th at 11:30 AM

This month’s selection is Rock Bottom, TN by Kimberly Nixon.

 

HAVEN Dementia Support:  Thursday, June 20th @2:00

Join HAVEN’s memory care support group for family members who are caring for loved ones with dementia.
