Children’s Programs

February 5th – Read with Roger, the therapy dog. Schedule an appt. between 2:30 & 4:30. Call 615-575-0508.
Lapsit – Friday mornings at 10:30am (for infants & toddlers ages 2 and under)
This program is for infants and toddlers ages 2 & under and their caregivers (older siblings are allowed to attend/participate when necessary).

The program lasts around 30 minutes. It includes books/stories, lots of songs, nursery rhymes, and fingerplays.

2/07/25 – Thank a Mail Carrier: Tuesday 2/4/25 was Thank a Mailman Day today we will read, talk, sing about mail carriers and delivery people.
2/14/25 – LOVE My Valentine: Today is Valentine’s Day! Let’s read, talk and sing about Valentine’s Day and LOVE!
2/21/25 – Let’s Be Friends: To follow up the love from last week today we will read, talk and sing about friends.
2/28/25 – Fairy Tale: Today will begin laying the foundation of literary works by reading, talking, and singing about fairy tales.

2/05/25 – Thank You, Mail Carrier: Today we will read and talk about mail carriers and delivery people.
2/12/25 – National Make a Friend Day: Yesterday was National Make a Friend Day so we will read and talk about friends during today’s program.
2/19/25 – Love, Love, Love: Valentine’s Day 2025 has already passed but we will focus on love today and reflect back on what Valentine’s Day represents.
2/26/25 – Fairy Tale: Have you seen this movie? Once upon a time before the movie it was a book.

2/05/25 – Mail Communication: We used to have mail as a means of long distance communication; now what do we do? Is mail still around?
2/12/25 – Friends: – Yesterday was National Make a Friend Day so we will read and talk about friends during today’s program.
2/19/25 – How was Your Valentine’s Day? : Today’s program will tie together mail, friends, and love as we read about and discuss how Valentine’s Day 2025 was.
2/26/25 – Fairy Tale: Fairy tales are part of the literature of preliterate societies, and there is no clear line separating them from myths or folk tales. They often begin with "once upon a time" or "a long time ago" and end with the characters "living happily ever after".

All are welcome regardless of skill level. Ages 10 & up. Bring a hook & yarn!

Teen Programs for middle & high schoolers (Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:00 pm)​
02/06/25 – Eating Ice Cream - Ice Cream for Breakfast Day is celebrated on the first Saturday of every February. The day was created by a mom and social worker who wanted to entertain her six children on a cold and snowy February morning. I know we don’t meet for breakfast and it’s not Saturday but let’s enjoy some Ice Cream!
02/13/25 – Villain-tine’s Day - Dress as your favorite Villain a let’s have a Villaintine’s Day Party!
02/20/25 – National Love Your Pet Day (with guest) - This special day honors the bond between humans and their beloved pets, encouraging us to take a moment to recognize the important role our pets play in our lives. Whether you have a furry best friend, a feathered buddy, or a scaly pal, National Love Your Pet Day is the perfect time to express your love and appreciation.
02/27/25 – Game Day - Today’s games could be: video; board; card; virtual; fantasy… choose which game and which friends you want to game with today!
Dungeons & Dragons: Friday, February 7th & 21st 3:30-5:00 Join us for our D&D group! Both teens and college ages are welcome!
ADULT PROGRAMS
Bingo: Every Tuesday at 1:00 PM
Join in on the fun of friendly competition as Ms. Vicki calls out the numbers, and the race is on to yell out "BINGO." Prizes awarded to winners.
Veteran's Representative: Wednesday, February 5th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in a study room
A rep from the Sumner County Veteran's Service Office will be available to help any veteran or veteran's spouse with questions or filling out forms. No appointment necessary. First come, first serve basis.
Genealogy Club: February 1st @10am
On Sat. Feb 1st 2025 we will begin our 8th year for the Portland Genealogy Club. Our special guest will be Educator and Historian from Westmorland, TN, John Creasy. He will be talking about the “Liberty Tornado” that came through this area on March 19th, 1925 . . . almost 100 years ago! We will have refreshments and then we will see “How Weather Effects Family History”. The first 20 guests will receive a useful gift for our anniversary. Thanks to the Friends of Portland Public Library for sponsoring our program.
Page Turners Book Club: Thursday, February 20th at 11:30 AM
This month’s selection is Daughter of a Daughter of a Queen by Sarah Bird.
